something has broken the b44 module,
modprobe b44 fails with:
FATAL: Error inserting b44 (/lib/modules/2.6.6-rc3-mm2/kernel/drivers/net/b44.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

dmesg contains the line:
b44: Unknown symbol generic_mii_ioctl
