generate-modprobe.conf question

I grabbed the rawhide version of the modutils and
mkinitrd rpm's to make it compitible with kernels's
2.5 and 2.6

Question is when do I run generate-modprobe.conf

before I boot into the 2.5 kernel or while i am in the
2.4 kernel.
