As before, there is a custom ACPI DSDT included for the Inspiron 8500;
be sure not to enable that (inside make config/menuconfig/xconfig) on

The patch is against 2.4.21-pre8 (released as 2.4.21) and builds cleanly
with gcc-3.3 (gcc-3.2 is no longer recommended, gcc-2.95.3 is still the
baseline)
Now that I've got it into source management, if there is interest I will
add split patches to the website for a 'mix and match' approach.
For -dis5, coming to a webserver near you sometime soon, expect:
