2.5.60 panic in ide_init_queue

2.5.60 compiled for i386 running on Athlon, gcc-3.2.2

On boot, the system gets as far as enumerating the IDE drives, and
panics on hdc (NULL pointer dereference). Here's the stack as listed
(I can get the offsets, registers, etc if needed, though it's a PITA):
