Attached is SATA booting and running as /dev/md0 in raid 1

[root@athy root]# hdparm -t /dev/md0

/dev/md0:
 Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.55 seconds = 41.29 MB/sec

Try enableing offboard booting.

This is the next rev below, with the real mccoy devices.
