linux kernel bug report

From: Kerekfy Peter (kerekfyp@fazekas.hu)

Hello!

I think I've discovered a bug related to the SMB filesystem.

I've got two machines at home: athene and thalia.
At thalia there is a FAT32 partition mounted to the /c directory with the
following options:

        root@thalia:~ # mount
        [...]
        /dev/hda2 on /c type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,codepage=852,iocharset=iso8859-2)
        [...]

I'm running samba server on that machine (thalia) with the attached config
file.

Then I've mounted the /c directory of thalia on athene via SMB.

        root@athene:~ # mount
        [...]
        //thalia/c on /mnt type smbfs (0)
        [...]

There is a file in the /c directory of thalia which's name contains some
of the following characters: ûõáé etc. (It was created under windoze.)

And when I tried to reach the directory which contained that specific file
from athene using the smbfs filesystem, the program (actually mc) ran into
a deadlock, and a kernel oops message apperad at console 10.

The oops message: the attached file oops.txt contains it.
The output of ksymoops < oops.txt: the attached file ksymoops.txt
contains it.

After I've renamed the file, which probably caused the oops, to a name
containing only 'normal' characteres, I was able to reach it without any
problem, just in normal cases.

And now, I'll try to tell you everything about the two computers:

It is the original SuSE 7.2 binary. (I hope)

I think it must be enough.

I've also attached the kernel config files of both machines.
(I used the utilities listed above to compile the kernels.)

Well, that's all...

I hope you'll be able to fix this bug soon. Good luck.

Bye,
Peter.
