It's not a bug and shouldn't be fixed.
The address set by `ifconfig hw' is a part of run-time system configuration,
and should stay as it.
If you want to change EEPROM, do it.
Take EEPROM update utility (e.g. from http://scyld.com/) and write what you
want.
