     Well, doesn't the elevator work for "-o sync"? Floppy is slow enough it
    wouldn't make any inconsistency if writes get reordered for the duration
    of the motor being active (i.e. when the LED is lit).

It would be good either to change -o sync to allow very temporary
non-syncing like this, or add an alternative option to do this (if the
meaning of -o sync needs to be device-independent).
