        As I replied to someone else who asked the same
question:

        Why are we declaring that the console shall be blanked in 10
minutes with no activity in kernel space? Seems to be a bit silly,
and I don't believe it adds anything but an option and a couple
#define's which are resolved at compile time.
        Really, it moves away from having a value compiled into the
kernel and gives the user the option of setting it. I don't see any
detriment to it and in a way I even see it as moving policy out and
giving the user the option. :)
        Besides, I'm lazy and would prefer that my kernel not ever
blank the screen and distribute my kernel to a number of different
machines. Without this option I'd have to run around to all the
different machines and set up rc scripts to run on them (and they
aren't all the same wrt their init scripts) just to tell the kernel
not to be stupid (in my view). :)
