You can install kmsgdump by applying this patch to
your
kernel (read kmsgdump.txt to configure it to fit your
needs):

http://www-miaif.lip6.fr/willy/pub/linux-patches/kmsgdump/0.4.2/

Then, simply pressing Alt-SysRq-D will bring you a
dump
screen with all the last messages. A panic will do the
same when possible (ie when kernel isn't too much
crashed). Then you can save them onto a blank floppy
or
print them on a line printer.

You chan also configure it to automatically dump to a
floppy upon panic, without human intervention.
