If you'll see "Can't recognize Adaptec APA-1480 in 2.4.0-test1-ac4"
you'll see that my problem recognizing my Adaptec SlimSCSI card was
resolved by the patch posted by Garth Reese in that thread.
The card is recognized and initialized (some message about downloading
sequencing code and stuff, so I imagine the card must be functioning),
however I tried mounting an Iomega Zip disk with a Macintosh HFS volume
on it and got this message
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
mount: /dev/sda1 has wrong major or minor number
This worked under kernel 2.2.13. I'm using Slackware 7 and the device
files were set up by the Slackware installer.
ls -l /dev/sda1
brw-r----- 1 root disk 8, 1 Apr 29 1995 /dev/sda1
I think zip disks may not have partition tables. I tried mounting
"/dev/sda" which I think means the whole disk and not just a partition,
and got the same message.
Have the device numbers changed at all during kernel versions?
Note that the Adaptec APA-1480 driver (apa1480_cb.o module) uses the
aic7xxx driver which has had some other issues lately.
