[OT]? Which kernel for firewall?

(If this is off-topic, my apologies... please just reply to me
personally in that case)

I'm wondering which is considered the better kernel for using on
a firewall machine that does nothing else, 2.0.38 or 2.2.x
(latest).

2.2.x, of course, has IP Chains which are rather nice. But
perhaps 2.0.38 is more stable, has fewer security holes, and
runs better on a 486-66 with 8 megs of RAM?
