PPP problems with 2.4.0-test1...

Hey all... I just installed the 2.4.0-test1 snapshot (I need some signal
handling features in it), but was dismayed to find that my ppp/ip-masq
setup has broken. Going through:

http://www.kernelnotes.org/change23.html

I found that my insmod was outdated (although I'm not using kernel
modules... everything is included or not)... so I updated it, and it
didn't help. The system is a fresh mandrake 7.0 install, and most utils
are very recent. In my /var/log/messages, I'm getting:

May 30 16:47:33 spandex pppd[1827]: Serial connection established.
May 30 16:47:33 spandex pppd[1827]: Using interface ppp0
May 30 16:47:33 spandex pppd[1827]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
May 30 16:48:04 spandex pppd[1827]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
May 30 16:48:04 spandex pppd[1827]: Connection terminated.
May 30 16:48:04 spandex pppd[1827]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
May 30 16:48:04 spandex pppd[1827]: Exit.

And yet, I can reboot with my 2.2.14 kernel and everything is fine again
(or from a windows box). I don't think it's the ISP, but can't prove
anything. :)

Does anyone have an idea of what could be going on here? Is this a
known/ac-fixed issue?

Thanks for the hints,

-Chris
