screwed all my modules

Francois Romieu kindly pointed out that my modutils were out of date (I
was using the Slackware 7 ones, which were built for a 2.2.something
kernel) and that was apparently part of my problem with linking the
Adaptec 1480 SlimSCSI driver.

So I got the 2.3.11 modutils and built and installed them, and I've done
full clean builds several times and everything, and no matter what I do,
depmod says every module I have has unresolved symbols. I get the
impression none of them are linking at all.

Any ideas? Is there a primer on depmod anywhere? I don't find the
linux-kernel faq or the depmod man page immediately helpful.

I almost got screwed. I'd mentioned in a previous post that I boot from
a kernel installed on a FAT partition. Well in an effort to have lots
of features while cutting down kernel size I made everything I could a
module, and when my modules broke I couldn't mount my fat partition to
copy a new kernel over to it. Fortunately I had an older kernel still
installed in lilo that I could boot off of and fix things up.
