Holy Exploding Kernels, Batman! (Arkeia software)

In my never-ending quest for a good network backup program, I took some
time this afternoon to test out Arkeia (www.arkeia.com) and probably made
one of the larger mistakes I've made linuxwise recently.

Without going into the procedure of the software installation and such, I
just wanted to report this kernel panic that the software caused, which
resulted in a locked box and a forced reset and a 30 minute fsck:

-----

(from the logfile)
May 29 17:41:05 geek kernel: eth0: card reports no resources.
May 29 17:42:07 geek last message repeated 3 times
May 29 17:44:03 geek last message repeated 4 times
May 29 17:46:15 geek kernel: eth0: card reports no resources.
May 29 17:47:56 geek kernel: eth0: card reports no resources.
May 29 17:49:02 geek kernel: eth0: card reports no resources.
May 29 17:51:34 geek last message repeated 3 times

(from the console screen:

eth0: card reports no resources.
eth0: card reports no resources.
eth0: card reports no resources.
eth0: card reports no resources.

Just a FYI. At the time, I was using Arkeia to back up a local Window98 machine. I also had a previous crash in the afternoon when I was backing up localhost. I attributed that to the fact I was monkeying with Arkeia's settings while a backup was going on. Perhaps there was more too it. No logs are available however.

The kernel is 2.2.15 based on a RH6.0 system with RH security patches applied. =-=-=-=-=-= Robert Hayden rhayden@geek.net UIN: 16570192
