Rage128 framebuffer doesn't work on Rage 128 LT

I have a Compaq Presario 1800T which I understand has an ATI Rage 128
LT.

The Rage 128 framebuffer option for the virtual framebuffer doesn't work
on my laptop, I just get a black screen during book. I hear disk
activity which seems to indicate it is otherwise booting normally.

This is with 2.4.0-test1-ac4

If I use the Vesa-2 framebuffer option it works OK. I don't seem to
have any problems with ac4 itself that I can tell.

I know the LT chip is somehow different from the other Rage chips
because a more recent version of the XFree86 server was required to
support this chip than would support other Rage's. I don't remember the
version but I know the XFree86 with Slackware 4 didn't work, I was able
to install a later version from sources that did work, and then the
XFree86 that came with SlackWare 7 worked fine.

You can find out more about this laptop at

Sometime today I'll stick the .config files I've used for the various
kernel builds up on the page with comments about my results with them.

Best,
