sfxload and recent kernels

I can load soundfonts on to an awe64 AFAIK up to 2.3.99-pre5. However
when I tried the same thing with pre9, this is what dumped:

Basically all sfxload does is to load a bit of code into ram on the
soundcard. However, in the last revisions something changed and killed
that ability in the kernel.

Could someone CC: a response please?
