I wouldn't be surprised if it was a BIOS problem: Neither hdb nor hdc are
activated from BIOS setup - they were added after hda, and because linux
doesn't care too much about the BIOS settings, nobody bothered changing
the BIOS.

After we saw the problem with 2.3.99-pre9-5, I tried to activate them
in BIOS, but the hard disk autodetection didn't work: It locked up when
trying to detect hdb (well, after ~1 minute I gave up)

Would it be a solution to modify ata66_ali15x3 in drivers/ide/alim15x3.c
and make it always return 0? (of course not a general solution - just a hack
for my case)
