Unresolved Symbols in 2.2.16-pre4

Ok,
My 2.2.16-pre4 kernel won't find my cdrom on my laptop. I have it
compiled in to the kernel this time. Cat /proc/devices shows a
block device of ide0 and that's it. When I try to do a "insmod cdrom"
it says "cdrom.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled
for". If I do a "depmod -a" I get unresolved symbols in: cdrom.o,
i2o_scsi.o, ide-cd.o, and epic_cb.o" When I compile it as a module
and try to "insmod ide-cd" I get alot of errors about unresolved
symbols also.

If I can help debug/test stuff, let me know.

Robert
