[patch snipped]
Hi Jason, hi others,
  'official' site for VMware modules for 2.3.xx kernels is
ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware - currently latest modules
are from May 12 (vmware-476-for-linux-2.3.99.tar.gz, 77545 bytes;
download, unpack, run 'runme.pl'). Unfortunately, because of all
2.3.99-preXX reports itself as 2.3.99, modules works only
on <=2.3.98 or latest 2.3.99 (I think that last change which
affected vmmon/vmnet was in 2.3.99-pre7).
  Unfortunately, if you are using SMP and/or IOAPIC and >2.3.99-pre8, you
must patch your kernel with 2.3.99-pre9.1-kernel-for-vmware.gz,
otherwise vmware will bomb out during start with 'PANIC F(171):242'.
I'm working with VMware on fixing this problem, but I do not know
when fixed version of (userspace) vmware will be released (unfortunately
2.2.x kernels do not have asm/hw_irq.h file, so it is somewhat tricky).
But I hope that before kernel 2.4.1.
                                    Best regards,
                                            Petr Vandrovec
