Are you talking about the brain-damage we keep for the benefit of
unfsd on old_dentry?
The code that checks the target reference count and does the call to
d_delete() should be OK as long as we're safe against a cached lookup
on it while we're in rename(), and dropping the target, should
normally be done in the VFS.
