Not true for serial/tty.
Same problem as 2.2.13, 2.2.14 and 2.2.15pre17: crash <=1 second,
2.2.15pre19: crash <=10 seconds, main switch necessary!
Test:
while :; do dd if=/proc/tty/driver/serial of=/dev/null bs=1024 2> /dev/null;
done

Machine:
ASUS P2B-DS, 2xPIII550, 512MB mem, 7890 on-board, 4x9GB IBM HD's, _ZERO_
_GATE$_,
3C59x, AWE64, ttyS[23] card, AGP ATI video, CDROM,
SCSI DAT & QIC on separate Adaptec 2910C controller (incompatibilities with
HD's,
and/or problem of aic7xxx, solved this way).
Same results with modularized kernel or, my preference, pure static kernel.
Not in mailing list, solitaire tester, but industrious reader.
