Hear! Hear! Isn't that what the *BSD folks have done? I seem to remember
seeing something which looked suspiciously like OID's in their sysinfo
interface. IMHO this is the way to go. But then the Linux community is
known for reinventing the wheel time and again. (Oh boy, i sure hope this
phrase is not copyright-protected by MSNBC...)
