Encrypted Filesystems with Linux

Is there any "modern" way to have encrypted filesystems in Linux
without resorting to NFS hacks? The kerneli system seems
good, except that they don't have a current version of
the patches. With 2.4 right around the corner, the idea
of using 2.2 isn't that appealing. Has someone taken
over that project and released newer versions, per chance?

Thanks.
