SCSI tape problems with 2.3.XX

As I mentioned last week, 2.3.4X and above seems incapable of
operating with my Seagate Travan drive. Configuration:

* Supermicro P6DGU dual PII motherboard, onboard Adaptec 7890 U2 SCSI
* dual PII/450
* kernel 2.3.51
* /proc/scsi/scsi:

Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
  Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST34502LW Rev: 0005
  Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
  Vendor: SONY Model: CD-ROM CDU-76S Rev: 1.1a
  Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
  Vendor: QUANTUM Model: VIKING II 4.5WLS Rev: 5520
  Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
  Vendor: YAMAHA Model: CRW4416S Rev: 1.0b
  Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
  Vendor: Seagate Model: STT8000N Rev: 3.22
  Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

The driver reports:

Mar 22 01:41:36 dhin kernel: st0: Error with sense data: Info fld=0x93, Current
st09:00: sns = f0 4
Mar 22 01:41:36 dhin kernel: ASC=80 ASCQ=96
Mar 22 01:41:36 dhin kernel: Raw sense data:0xf0 0x00 0x04 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x93 0
x0a 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x80 0x96 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

I would like to know if this a media problem (it seems to happen with
all 3 tapes that I have, but does not happen under 2.2.10), or
something else.
