Support for the AMD7409 IDE chipset got added sometime in v2.3 - I'm
currently using 2.3.42 with CONFIG_BLK_DEV_AMD7409=y,
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y, and CONFIG_IDEDMA_AUTO=y, and getting dma
mode 2 without the massive corruption you (and I :-( ) saw in v2.2.
No hdparm'ing necessary.
