2.2.12-20 is the Kernel that ships with Redhat 6.1, including Red Hat patches.

I have it working on the builtin modem in my Toshiba Tecra 8000, running 2.2.14
kernel.

IIRC, you need to build a uniprocessor kernel without the > 1gig memory
support. At least that works for me (though I do get a warning about the wrong
version).
