booting the x86 SMP kernel on a one-CPU SMP box should work just fine
under 2.3.40 + smp-C3, if it doesnt then it's a bug and i'd like to know
about it. But what we are talking about is another case: having a UP
kernel with APIC and IOAPIC support in it.
