I use the /proc/ide to find drives and cd-roms during installation
of my m68k/Q40 distribution. A very simple shell script is enough
to this. Some of the redundant /proc features allow me to make the
installation fairly comfortable.
So I would hope any new solution would give me similar possibilities.
