I have posted the same message on Intel's support forums, but
I think some of you would like to know about this -- perhaps
someone might have experienced something similar?
We have two Dell Optiplex GX1's (P3/600) with
Intel Pro/1000 adapters. The OS is Linux 2.2.9 (for ATM support).
The driver is from Intel's website (support.intel.com).
Both computers crash _very_ badly under a high load:
Pro/1000 interface stops responding in a few seconds using 'ping -f <other
box>'. Soon after that there is (sometimes) a kernel panic.
You _always_ get kernel panic, if you stop the flooding
and remove the driver with rmmod.
Both computers, the sender and the recipient crash the same way.
Under a light load NIC's seem to work fine.
The only way to get Pro/1000 NIC working again is doing
a total power on/off. Reset isn't sufficient - the other host won't
respond to ping.
Any ideas/thoughts?
PS, I'm not subscibing to the list and I didn't find any current
archives, so if anything comes up about this, please CC it to me.
