I dont know the cisco2600 but I assume it is a dedicated router...
A linux box has this big operating system in it with all the loggings,
background processes etc. The overall performance of the linux box would
be slightly non-uniform (not that I am comparing it to other OSes). Slight
loads on the linux box will create little dips in the throughput speed and
unless the router is completely dedicated (monitor removed, never logged
in), the cisco2600 would be reliable, easier and preferable.
