Netmask for PPP interface problem

Hello.

I have recently upgraded to 2.2.9 + net-tools 1.52 + ppp 2.3.8 + tcpdump 3.4.

All are working well but tcpdump is not resolving IP addresses to hostnames
for any traffic through my PPP interface(s).

The reason seems to be that the netmask setup for PPP interfaces is
255.255.255.255 and tcpdump interprets this as a reason to not resolve.
(addrtoname.c line 228)

My question is, which of the above components (or other component) changed the
way in which netmasks for PPP interfaces are generated and/or used and what is
the best way to work around this problem?

I notice in the PPPD man page that "some systems" always use 255.255.255.255.
Is Linux one of these? Adding the netmask option to my ppp/options seems to have
no effect.

Cheers and thanks,
Stephen Davies
