cannot send my email..

Generally, I can send e-mail thtough:
mail my_friend@xxx.com
Or if I want to send a text in attachment:
cat attached_file | mail my_friend@xxx.com
But when I do that on my Linux Redhat 5.0 system, it pops me my e-mails back
through mailer daemon and no one receives my e-mails I m sending out!
