NTPING: polling subnet masks?

The `ntping' program from the Scotty suite is somehow able to poll
hosts for their subnet masks when used from inside Tkined. I would
like to get this information into a perl program, but when execing
`ntping' or running it from the command line, the `-mask' option does
not seem to work.
How is ntping able to get mask information from hosts?
Is there a perl module that does something similar?
