I am running Linux on a Presario 8702 but It's been taken apart and put
together again so many times that it (thankfully, IMHO) doesn't much
resemble a compaq anymore. However, I seem to remember there being a
problem with the Compaq bios, which usualy requires having a small
partition on the hd, and running *nix. IIRC, this can be fixed by getting
one oftheir "softpaqs" from www.compaq.com that will let you create a
"Bios Disk" that will let you ditch the bios partition on the hd and just
boot into it when nescesary. Tre wierd, but it works.

I'm working on memory from a coupla years ago, though, so I could be
wrong. The bios partition might not even be a problem but if it is,
herre's hoping that this helps. =:)
