My company has a DNS server + linux sendmail(behind firewall) running
fine all the while with our 128K lease line. For certain reason, the
management want to try on isdn dial-up (64K + 2 line). So we terminate
our lease line and apply for the isdn line. We got fix ip from the
ISP. We have a firewall and i just do a minor changes on the firewall
from the old lease line ip to the new isdn fix ip. Now the user can
surf the net and one of our partner willing to host our mail server in
their 128K lease line. So we register our old domain to point to their
DNS server and instruct the DNS to send the mail with our domain to
our mail server. Since we have the existing mail server in our
premises, we want to use back as the mail relay. Another reason is
that if the user want to send out big size of mail, the local mail
server will handle it. The user do not need to wait the mail do upload
to other mail relay.(if we use our partner mail relay)
So whatever the mail going out to the internet, it will relay from
this local existing mail server. I event comment the Cwlocalhost in
sendmail.cf so that even it is in the same domain, it will send to the
mail server that is host in our partner premises.( I have try, if i
didn't comment out, the mail will send to the local existing server
when i send mail to my college in the same domain. So got problem on
the mail since all the user will get their mail from the mail server
in our partner premises) The user mail client under outgoing mail
point to this local existing mail server( horus.com.au --
10.xx.xx.xx). So to get mail, the user will retrieve from the mail
server in our partner premises.
The sending out mail is fine. But the problem that i found out after a
few days is that, some mail can send out and some cannot. Certain mail
will queue for a few day or few hours than only send out, eventhough
the site is near. I have send a mail to one of my friends and it queue
for a few day and bounce back. Sometime the mail can go out and
sometime it can't.I even try to send mail to our partner and the mail
keep queueing until this writting.
So i try to use other mail relay. The first one i try is our partner
mail server as a relay. I send to the user of our partner and
immediately they get the mail. i try a few time and the mail go
through withour queue. Then i try our ISP mail relay. The same thing
happen. All the mail go through fine. So i set back to our local
existing mail relay and try to send mail. The mail queue. WHY? The
queue mesages record that cannot estblish smtp on port 25.

error : cannot establish smtp port 25
...

...
..
Does it has anything to do with the DNS?
Is the DNS is not up to date if it not a register domain to the ISP?
