Printing problems

Hi,

my problem started with moving from Linux 2.0.18 and BSD printing to
Linux 2.0.33 with LPRng: Our Novell Netware servers could no longer
print files when the job name contained either a national character
(umlaut) or a ~ (generated by Win 95 to abbreviate long file names).
Printing from other Unix clients was o.k.

After upgrading to Linux 2.0.35 and Prepatch36 I'm even no longer
able to print local files or look at them. I.e.

lpr -P testQ Käse.ps

results in

bad job line 'JK^Dse.ps'
job 'cfA726lpd2.hrz.tu-darmstadt.de' transfer to testQ@localhost failed
hahn@lpd2:/home/hahn/druck_test >

and looking at a job that was enqueued with Linux 2.0.33

lpq -P testQ

results in

Printer: testQ@lpd2 (printing disabled)
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Status: server finished at 08:49:34
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
error A 13 ERROR: bad job line 'PK^\hne'
hahn@lpd2:/home/hahn/druck_test >

I upgraded LPRng to the latest version before upgrading Linux to get rid
of the printing problems with novell but now I can no longer print from
AIX (using IBM's system service) nor from other Unix hosts running plain
old BSD printing.

To conclude, one of two questions need to get answered:

1) How do I fix Linux 2.0.35 ?
2) How do I fix LPRng with Linux 2.0.33 for printing from Novell Netware ?

Hopefully

Norbert
