If you'd like my opinion, stay with the "known to work" class of hardware (the "might work" list seems too much of a gamble with my hard earned money). I have made many purchases of hardware based on this list and have never been steered wrong. I use RH5.1 on 2 laptops (toshiba tecra 740cdt and toshiba 4700) and a cobbled together desktop system. I have two 3c905Bs (ironies of ironies) in my desktop eth0 bound to my cable modem with DHCP, and the other for my "home-net". I have had no problems whatever. (Although, I would not recommend 3Com to anyone - it did take quite a bit of detective work to get it to work).
