I am having some problem seting up my Linux Box to use ethernet Card .
I have @HOME Cabel Modem installed, and it works fine with Win95.
I tried to configure it under Linux, but was facing some problem.
I have a Compaq 4840 running Linux 5.0. I have Ether Express Pro/10
ethernet card.
At first i could not get my ethernet card recognised, it was PnP card,
then I used ISAPNP Tools, and managed to get it recognised. I have
/etc/isapnp.conf file created using isapnptools.
I could manage to get the card recognised under Linux. I did network
configuration. The interface eth0 comes up fine.
I see this when I run dmesg :
eth0:Intel 82595-based Lan card at 0x210, 00:00:00:00:00:00, IRQ 9, 10
BaseT
eepro.c : V0.09 7/31/96 Bao C.Ha (bao.ha@srs.gov)
eth0: Set RX mode to 1 address
eth0: Set RX mode to 1 address
eth0: Set RX mode to 1 address
eth0: Set RX mode to 1 address
I don't know what these last 4 lines mean.
I can ping my local address, but unable to ping any address outside. I
got a fixed
IP from comcast. and got the Default Gateway address. I can't even ping
the gateway, it is on the same network.
I don't know if I am missing some step in configuration. Do I need to do
some setup for using Cable Modem ?
Any help would be appreciated,
thanks,
Sandeep
