How are you attaching to the net? Cable modem? Don't have any specific
experience with those but yes you need one box as a gateway between your
network and the internet. Look at ipfwadm

If its a full time connection, yes, but depends how you set up your
firewall (ipfadm, you MUST use some form of firewall).
