Compaq Smartstation ethernet controller

I have a Compaq Lte Elite in a Smartstation using the built in ethernet
card (supposedly an eepro) connected to my desktop w/ a Linksys Ether16
card by a 10baseT patch cable. Both detect their respective cards, but
when I try to ping the desktop from the laptop, it says "eth0: XMT
status = 0x400." When I try to ping the laptop from the desktop, it just
sits there without a response. Another odd thing is that when the card
in the laptop is initialized, after reporting the ethernet addr, it says
"10Base2," but there is no 10Base2 connecter on the card, only RJ45 and
AUI. I have tried this with kernels 2.1.102 and 2.0.33 without any luck.
Both are running Slackware 3.4. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris Moore
