win95 -> linux : solution

Due to the overwhelming response to know what happened... (well, only 3
actually asked, its my fantasy deal with it :)

It wasn't so much one thing as a combo of things.
Johnathan suggested I check (and edit if needed) the Win95 registry, and
Bruce recommended removing the card and reinstalling from stratch.
I did remove the card, rebooted the computer, made sure everything was
gone that had any relationship with the card, then shutdown, reinstalled
the card, booted up, configured the card, and setup TCP/IP, then
rebooted again.
THEN I checked the registry
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP) and
rebooted yet again.

THEN, at someones suggestion (I can't remember who, and I can't find the
email message) I got a copy of tcpdump and ran it to check the output
from the connections (tcpdump -i eth0). At this point I tried to ping
the win95 machine from Linux and it worked. Pinging the linux from
win95 worked, and so did telnet.... everything seems to work.
I haven't rebooted either machine since, but I know that I will have to
reboot the win95 machine soon enough, I will reboot the linux soon as
well to check that everything stays working.
Again thanks to everyone :)
