Yes, classical subnetting does dictate that netmasks of all zeros and
ones are not routable, However, Linux and most modern routers
understands CIDR. If I remember correctly, Cisco OS supports a command
"route all zeros" ( or something like that). I've segmented my class C
at work with 255.255.255.192 netmask or in classes notation /26 and have
not had any problems.
