Yep I can only use !0BaseT. Both cards only have the RJ-45 jack. Makes
that on eeasy (bout time something was).
As tp the second question, yes I have used the diags programs to check
both cards. I installed the card currently in the Linux box in the win
box and ran the diags, then installed it into the linux box and
configured it there. I installed the other card into the win 95 machine
and configured and ran all the diags programs available. One catch I
noticed last night..... If I run the basic diagnostic in DOS, from the
safe prompt, skipping the startup files, it will pass every test (tests
listed below) however, if I try to run the tests from a DOS prompt
window wil refuses to pass the Cable Connection, and Loopback tests.
The cards are as follows:
Sirius (Win95) - Linksys ether16 10BaseT LAN Card
FEATURES (brief)
- 16-bit ISA 10BaseT Network Adapter for 386,486, and Pentium Desktop
PC's
- Fully IEEE 802.3 Compliant
- No Jumpers or Switches to Set -- Fully Software Configurable

Whitestar (Linux) - Linksys EtherFast 10/100 LAN Card
FEATURES (brief)
- 32-bit Professional-Grade Bus Mastering PCI LAN Card
- Runs with both 10BaseT and 10BaseTX Networks
- No Jumpers or Switches to Set -- Fully Software Configurable
- Software Drivers for All Major Networks included

READY TO RUN WITH:
...
- Linux
...

The whitestar cards does specifally list and name Linux as being
supported. I checked out the inksys website and read every piece of
info I could find related to Linux, and did download a new tulip.c file
because the one I had didn't work. After recompiling with the new tulp
driver the card was detected and configured with no errors.
Im at the end of my ideas. I have tried everthing I can think of
including spending almost 4 hours last night trying to configure both
comptuers in every possible way.

Some asked if I was sure I had a crossover cable.. Yes.
(from the package) -
UTP Level5/Category 5
Crossover Cable, 10'
Belkin Networking Products.

I checked the plugs against a couple diagrams I found showing what a
crossover cable should look like and it matches (in fact both cables I
have do).
Not sure where to go from here...
