Hello Paul,
I think what you should try and use is IP masquerading, this enables you
to connect many computers with 1 IP address from the internet.

The IP-Masquerade Mini-HOWTO may be of some help to you if you decide to
use masquerading.

The thing you have to remember the most is when you configure your client
(Not gateway machine) to use the network you need to tell them that the
Linux box is the gateway.
