More than one ethernet cards?

Hello Friends;
I want to setup firewall for my network. I am confuse on something
about ethernet card.
1. I added "append" on lilo.conf file according ethernet-howto but
it failed to load and probe.
2. How can I add some config to the second ethernet card? How can
I know what port it using? what IO address it is using?
