I'll corroborate Phillipe Strauss's comments. The cable modems used in
our community is basically an interface between an ethernet card and the
cable TV coax. The cable company provides an ethernet card if you don't
have one. Setup is as for any ethernet card; no PPP, dialer, or serial
port required.
