Hello list members:
I am experimenting with setting up a small 'Internet' in my office, and
was configuring DNS setup so as to test out our SMTP Mail Gateway
solution from Novell. My network consists of 3 machines, all running
Caldera Desktop version 1.0. There are two segments, with one of the
machine acting as a router. Network 1 is 200.200.200.x and network 2
200.200.201.x. All the 3 machines are name servers to their own domain:
e.g. 1st server ., 2nd server com. and 3rd server tsg.com.
The root server is called top.com, with IP address 200.200.201.100.
The com domain server is called solo.com, with 2 cards on it running
as router with IP address 200.200.201.1 & 200.200.200.1.
The tsg.com domain server is called foreigner.tsg.com, with IP address
200.200.200.100.
For a start I am only testing the root and com domain servers. I managed
to get the domain name system working fine, with checks using nslookup
setting types to mx, soa, ns and all of them return sensible answers to me.
The problem is that when I sent mail from root@top.com to kylee@com, there
is an error returned in the SMTP DNS exchange error 554 - MX list for com
points back to solo.com. The error is attached as a text file here.
May I know what does the error message is trying to say ? Any suggestion
will be greatly appreciated.
