It would be most helpful if you indicated what version and vendor of X
you are using. I can assume you are using XFree86, but I do not know what
version you are working with.

You ought to use the accelerated Mach32 server for best performance. That
includes refresh rate. Please elucidate what you mean by "haywire." Do not
even bother trying to configure the SVGA server if you have a Mach32--that
should only be used if you don't have the appropriate card for an accelerated
server. Heck, why not just use the VGA server?

Hint: Have you tried the -probeonly option? Furthermore, have you read
the XF86_Mach32 and XFree86 man pages?

Also, please make sure your mailer breaks lines.
