Hi all. Apparently linux-ipx is defunct? Majordomo returned 'succeeded'
in adding me, yet the mail bounced.. My linux-ipx post, with linux-net
additions :)
------------------------------
Hi. This is the last linux I ever expected to be subscribed to, but I
have an opportunity to install a linux box with appletalk and netware
support at a small company. I have a DRM-604x installed on a 2940. (A
little background.. I have been using linux for quite a while, just not
netware/mac support)
My problems are many, despite the fact that all the machines can see the
server. I am running 2.0.29, libc 5.3.18(?), mostly redhat 4.0,
mars_nwe-0.98.pl8, netatalk-1.4b2.tar.gz. THis is a list of my problems.
I'll try and be as accurate as possible; I probably should post with more
sleep..
1. I'm not sure if disk permissions are correct. Can someone go thru the
incantations of creating a user directory? I don't mean 'adduser',
rather, what should the umask be, so multiple people can write to that
directory? I set up a 'disc' group, and added the users, so I'm pretty
sure this is correct. I think the problems may lie with the CDROM, due to
the fact they may be copying stuff from the CD (which is mounted ro),
therefore the resulting directory would be ro? So, they can create a top
directory, but none below that.
2. What are the recommended mount options for the partition the users
will be writing to, for user exec, etc?
3. I copied some files to the netware home directory, and no one could see
them. Is there some sort of database that keeps track of all files that
are shared? How can I recreate it, if so? What would be a reason why
someone wouldn't be able to see the files in the shared directory? This
is mostly from a win95 client -- its seems that Mac clients can see them
okay.
4. What is the limit on the number of exportable volumes/directories? I
saw a reference to four, and I have a six-disc cdrom, and SYS, DATA, and
two 2.1 gig scsi disks. I would like to give seperate access to each one.
5. Does upper case matter? Should SYS and DATA be capatilized? I keep
seeing something like (don't have that log here) permission denied, or
unaccessible directory, although I can log on as that user from the linux
box.
6. I have hfs (Mac CDROM) support in the kernel, yet it says 'Unknown
CDROM'. If I go to the mounted CD, I can list all the files there with no
problem from the linux box, but not from a netware client. Any ideas?
The directory just shows up blank.
7. Can someone send me their /etc/nwserv.conf file?
8. Finally , a Mac question. I compiled hfs, and managed to insert it
correctly into 2.0.29. I am successful in mounting the disc, yet it
reports 'Unknown CDROM type'. Any ideas? It didn't do this once before
when I had it working on another machine. I have tried it with several
discs (PagerMake, Photshop..)
9. This is the contents of my nwserver log file which may provide some
information:

THanks for any ideas. I have to go back there Wednesday, and really hoped
I could get it fixed, after all the other hardware/kernel problems I had.
Thanks,
